History of the castle

XVIIth centuary...
In 1668, the castle was bought by Felix de Gallean Gadagne, a descendant of a wealthy Italian family from Florence.
This new magnificent lord chose the famous Provencal architect, Royer de la Valfenière, to design a large classical castle, preserving the medieval one that he widened with monumental arcades and raised up with two upper storeys. On North face, the keep was pulled down to manage a welcoming entrance courtyard.
This castle, famous in its time, remained property of the Gallean Gadagne until French Revolution (happening only in 1791 in that area ), when it was confiscated and sold to the demolishers by the township as a National Good.
After the revolutionary storm, what remained of the castle was returned to the Duke of Gadagne who sold the whole, in 1820, to an estate realtor who divided the property in several parts, called : le Château, le Grand Grenier (the Great Granary and Prison as well ), and La Ménagerie (servants outbuildings).
